The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has proposed raising the limit for microenterprise and housing loans to Rs5 million.
The commission has issued the proposed amendments for stakeholder consultation. Under the proposal, the annual income threshold for microfinance borrowers would rise from Rs1.2 million to Rs1.5 million.
For small businesses, the annual turnover limit would increase from Rs30 million to Rs400 million. For medium-sized businesses, the limit would go up from Rs400 million to Rs2 billion.
According to the SECP, the proposed limits for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are in line with recent changes made by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
