Sindh Expands Pink Bus Service for Women in Karachi

Sindh has officially launched a new Pink Bus route, strengthening its women-focused public transport network and marking another major step toward safer and more inclusive travel options. The announcement highlights the government’s broader plan to expand gender-friendly mobility across Karachi.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the Pink Bus service has now begun operating from Numaish Chorangi to Surjani, adding that more improvements are on the way. He confirmed that the women-only buses will also be introduced soon on the Edhi Orange Line BRT and the Green Line, reinforcing the province’s push for secure, comfortable transport.

“People will hear more good news very soon,” he said while speaking at the Green Line launch ceremony.

The initiative builds on Sindh’s long-running efforts to modernize public mobility. The Pink Bus project was originally launched to ensure women could travel safely without harassment, and rising ridership has encouraged further expansion. Memon added that provinces like Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have also been urged to develop similar services to support female commuters nationwide.

During the event, the minister also revealed that the government is preparing specially designed motorbikes for children with disabilities, which will be distributed free of cost. He said the Transport Department is holding daily meetings to finalize the plan, calling inclusive mobility a shared responsibility.

With Karachi’s transport network seeing multiple upgrades including electric buses, BRT expansions, and new safety initiatives the latest Pink Bus route strengthens Sindh’s commitment to modern, accessible, and women-centered urban travel.
