The Sindh government has decided to establish three modern provincial data centers under its Digital Sindh initiative to strengthen digital governance, cybersecurity, and government data management across the province.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah with National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) Managing Director Major General (Retd.) Ali Farhan. Senior provincial officials and NTC representatives also attended the meeting.
The participants reviewed cooperation between the Sindh government and NTC in telecommunications, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data management, while discussing ways to accelerate digital transformation and improve e-governance.
During the briefing, officials informed the chief minister that NTC currently operates data centers in Islamabad, Lahore, and Quetta, along with nearly 1,000 kilometers of optical fiber network in Sindh.
Officials also shared plans to establish a modern data center in Karachi to support e-governance and enhance data sovereignty. The proposed facility will provide secure data storage, cloud services, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions for government departments.
Murad Ali Shah said Sindh is entering a new era of technology-driven governance, stressing that secure digital infrastructure is essential for protecting government data as a national asset.
He directed the Planning and Development Board, the Information Technology Department, and NTC to prepare a comprehensive roadmap outlining the project’s technical requirements, implementation timeline, governance structure, and future expansion plans.
The chief minister also instructed that the proposed data centers should comply with international standards for cybersecurity, data protection, and disaster recovery, adding that the project could be implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
