The Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police has ordered a province-wide crackdown against the illegal use of government registration number plates on private vehicles.
According to an official directive issued by Sindh Police, some government officers have been using official registration plates on their personal vehicles, which has been declared an illegal practice and a misuse of government privileges.
The directive stated that the misuse of government number plates damages transparency and creates difficulties for law enforcement agencies. It clarified that official registration plates are only permitted for vehicles officially allotted by government departments.
Following the orders, police field formations across Sindh have been directed to launch a special campaign to identify private vehicles displaying illegal government registration plates. The IG has made it clear that no person, regardless of position or influence, will be allowed to use government number plates on a private vehicle.
Under the new orders, authorities will confiscate illegal number plates, while vehicles may also be taken into custody where required. Legal action, including registration of criminal cases, may be initiated against violators according to applicable laws.
Supervisory police officers have been instructed to personally monitor the implementation of the campaign. The IG warned that negligence, favoritism, or failure to take action against violators could result in departmental proceedings.
The crackdown orders have come into effect immediately across Sindh.
