Sindh’s non-formal education program has provided access to education to nearly 100,000 out-of-school children since its launch in April 2025, Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said.
Speaking at a tablet distribution ceremony in Karachi, Shah said the program is operating through 1,880 non-formal education centers across six districts. The initiative focuses on children who face barriers to attending conventional schools, particularly girls and children from disadvantaged communities.
The minister said local communities are also helping expand access to education by bringing learning opportunities closer to children who cannot attend regular schools.
During the ceremony, organized by the Directorate of Literacy and Non-Formal Education, 1,000 digital tablets were distributed among facilitators. The devices will support communication, attendance monitoring, educational activities and teaching assistance at 1,000 centers, including those serving remote areas.
JICA Pakistan’s Chief Adviser for Education and Literacy, Chiho Ohashi, said the tablets would improve access to teaching materials and enable more interactive lessons. They will also support online training and professional development for facilitators.
Director NFE Abdul Jabbar Mari said the program’s management information system would allow student and center records to be updated on time, helping improve monitoring and administration.
