Sindh to Expand Karachi’s E-Challan System to More Districts
Sindh police have decided to widen Karachi’s faceless e-challan system to several districts after its early success in improving traffic discipline and reducing roadside confrontations. The decision was finalized during a high level meeting led by Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon at the Central Police Office.
Karachi’s e-challan system was launched to modernize traffic enforcement through automated monitoring, digital challans, and minimal human interaction. Its positive performance has encouraged authorities to replicate the model across Sindh.
Officials briefed the IG that preparations are complete for rolling out the Traffic Road Accident and Control System (TRACS) along with high-resolution enforcement cameras in the next phase.
In the first rollout, TRACS will be introduced in Thatta, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Larkana. According to the DIG Traffic, divisional officers have confirmed that cameras and TRACS equipment are ready for deployment, enabling authorities to identify number-plate violations, lane discipline issues, overspeeding and other offenses without any roadside interaction.
A senior officer said,
“The new system will help eliminate unnecessary confrontations and ensure that traffic laws are implemented through a fair, transparent and technology based process.”
Service centers have already been established in all districts, and staff training is expected to begin soon. IG Memon instructed all DIGs to launch a wide public awareness drive before TRACS becomes fully operational.
He emphasized cooperation with local administrations, media and community groups to educate people about essential traffic rules, including wearing helmets, using seat belts and installing proper number plates, adding that the system’s effectiveness ultimately depends on public compliance.
