The Sindh government has announced a major urban security move, linking all public transport vehicles with the Safe City surveillance network to ensure safer travel and smarter traffic management across the province.
According to Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, surveillance cameras installed in the People’s Bus Service and the soon-to-be-launched Electric Vehicle (EV) Taxi Service will be integrated with the Safe City Project through an advanced Intelligent Transport System (ITS).
“This integration will make public transport safer and help us adopt modern, data-driven traffic and security solutions for our cities,” Memon said while addressing a media briefing.
The government is also preparing to launch the EV Taxi Service in December, offering citizens an affordable, eco-friendly, and digitally monitored transport option. The project includes a “Pink EV Taxi Service” exclusively for women, ensuring safety and comfort with real-time tracking and monitoring.
During a recent meeting with investors and officials of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority, discussions were held on charging infrastructure, operational models, and future expansion. Memon emphasized that Karachi urgently needs a modern and efficient transport system and reaffirmed that public-private partnerships will be key to achieving sustainable and smart mobility in Sindh.
The initiative reflects the provincial government’s broader vision of enhancing urban safety, environmental sustainability, and digital governance in public transport operations.
