Snap has named Robert Downey Jr. as its chief customer experience officer (CCEO) for Specs. The company wants the actor to help customers understand what its $2,195 augmented reality glasses can do.
If you think about it, choosing Downey Jr. makes sense. The actor spent over a decade playing Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His character famously relied on a transparent heads-up display inside the Iron Man suit to analyze threats, control weapons, and interact with AI. Now, Snap wants the man behind that iconic visor to sell real-world AR glasses.
As part of this role, Downey Jr. will work across the Specs organization on new capabilities and Lens experiences. He will also collaborate on original content and in-person experiences. However, Snap has not shared details about those future projects yet.

As Snap Inc. explains:
As CCEO, Downey Jr. is launching his first project today — a collection of original episodes that put SPECS technology to the test. These initial episodes show how SPECS AR glasses can help you elevate workspaces, master golf, relax with an entertaining show, and develop artistic skills.
Alongside the announcement, Snap launched a set of original episodes that put Specs technology to the test. These episodes cover workspaces, golf, entertainment, and artistic skills. Viewers can watch them on the Specs website and its YouTube channel.
In addition, a new Specs promotion featuring Downey Jr. aired during the October 20 NBA season opener. The ad ran during the game between the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers. This timing clearly targets the holiday shopping season.
Reports earlier this year suggested Snap offered Downey Jr. around $100 million in company stock for the role. Neither Snap nor the actor has confirmed this figure.
Snap first unveiled Specs at AWE 2026 as standalone AR glasses. They require no phone, tether, or external computer. The glasses run on Snapdragon processors and feature OpenAI and Google Gemini integration for multimodal AI-powered lenses. They also support real-time speech transcription in over 40 languages. In many ways, they bring Tony Stark’s fictional HUD closer to reality.
Despite these features, the $2,195 price tag (approximately PKR 558,000) remains a tough sell for most consumers. Snap clearly hopes Downey Jr.’s star power will convince buyers that Specs are worth the premium.
