Spotify Adds Music Video Feature for Premium Users in US, Canada
Spotify is expanding its platform beyond audio with the rollout of music videos for Premium users in the U.S. and Canada. The feature is still in beta, giving subscribers early access to a growing collection.
The initial catalog features artists such as Ariana Grande, Olivia Dean, BABYMONSTER, Addison Rae, Tyler Childers, Natanael Cano, and Carín León. While Spotify refers to the selection as “limited” for now, the company promises that the library will expand in the coming months.
How to Watch Music Videos on Spotify
Watching music videos is simple. Premium users can access Spotify on TV, desktop, iOS, or Android devices. When a supported track plays, a “Switch to Video” icon appears above the song title. Tapping it restarts the track with a video in the Now Playing view, which can be rotated to landscape mode on mobile devices.
Spotify also makes discovery easy. Users can scroll down to find related music videos or visit an artist’s profile under the Music tab to explore additional videos, including live performances and covers. Curated playlists like 90s Video Hits, Hip-Hop Throwbacks, and Latin Party Hits let users browse by genre and era.
The beta for music videos was first introduced in March 2024, initially covering 11 markets, including the UK, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Brazil, and the Philippines. By October, Spotify expanded video support to 97 countries through a redesigned Apple TV app.
Until now, video content on Spotify has been largely limited to podcasts and short looping clips. In contrast, Apple Music has maintained a full music video catalog since 2018. Spotify now plans to offer full video access to all Premium users in North America by the end of the month.
