Spotify Officially Launches Page Match to Sync Audiobooks With Physical and E-Books

Published by

Spotify has now officially launched Page Match, the feature we previously discussed when it was still in testing. The tool is live and aims to make switching between reading and listening much easier.

Page Match lets users sync their progress across audiobooks, e-books, and physical books. Instead of guessing where you left off, you can scan a page and continue instantly in another format.

If you are reading a physical book or an e-book and want to move to the audiobook, open the title in Spotify. Tap the Page Match button and select Scan to listen. After allowing camera access, take a photo of the page you are currently on. Spotify will match that page to the exact moment in the audiobook. You will then see two options: Play from here or save for later.

The feature also works the other way. If you are listening and want to switch back to reading, open the audiobook and tap the Page Match button. Choose Scan to read and scan any page in your book or e-book. Spotify will detect where you stopped listening. It will then guide you by telling you to flip forward or backward until you reach the correct passage.

This removes the need to manually search for your place. As a result, moving between formats becomes faster and more convenient, especially for longer titles.

Spotify says Page Match will roll out to audiobook listeners on iOS and Android by the end of this month. At launch, it will support most English-language titles.

In addition, the company announced a partnership with Bookshop.org. Through this deal, users in the US and UK will be able to purchase physical books directly inside the Spotify app. Bookshop.org connects readers with independent bookstores.
