Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, the eight-part horror limited series executive produced by Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer, has become Netflix’s most-watched show globally. The series debuted on March 26 and reached the No. 1 position in four days, topping charts in 11 countries. It is the Duffer Brothers’ first project to land on Netflix since the final season of Stranger Things aired on December 31, 2025.
Haley Z. Boston created and wrote the show, whose credits include Brand New Cherry Flavor and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. It follows Rachel (Camila Morrone) and her fiancé Nicky (Adam DiMarco) as they embark on a road trip to his family’s secluded vacation home in a snowy forest for their wedding. Rachel is plagued by the growing feeling that something terrible is about to happen. The official logline describes it as “horror’s take on a woman becoming a wife.”
The cast includes Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ted Levine, Gus Birney, Karla Crome, Jeff Wilbusch and Zlatko Buric. Emmy nominee Weronika Tofilska, who directed episodes of Baby Reindeer, directed four of the eight episodes and served as executive producer. Axelle Carolyn (The Haunting of Bly Manor) and Lisa Bruhlmann (Killing Eve) directed the remaining episodes. The series was filmed in Toronto.
Critics have responded positively. The series holds an 88% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads:
“Marrying horror and atmospheric storytelling to thrilling effect, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen ably transports newlywed jitters to the surrealist realm of binge-worthy TV.”
Audience reception has been more divided, with a 63% audience score on the same platform. Some viewers compared the show’s style to David Lynch, noting it leans more toward atmospheric dread than straightforward horror.
The show arrives as the Duffer Brothers prepare to leave Netflix for a four-year exclusive deal at Paramount starting in April 2026. They still have two more Netflix projects to deliver: the animated series Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, premiering April 23, and the sci-fi drama The Boroughs, set for May 21.
Stranger Things remains Netflix’s ninth most-watched English-language TV series of all time, with 31.5 million views in its final season’s opening week.
