Yesterday, gamers received a massive surprise. Take-Two Interactive and Zynga shadow-dropped Borderlands Mobile on the Apple App Store. Fans saw no teasers or prior announcements. The brand-new looter shooter is currently an iOS exclusive. Furthermore, it is completely free to play.

Classic Chaos on a Smaller Screen
The developers successfully packed the franchise’s signature art style and gun-slinging action into this mobile release. Players will experience shorter missions and smaller-scale battles. However, the game still features plenty of loot and classic enemies like skags, bandits, and bosses. It even brings back the popular “Circles of Slaughter” side quests from Borderlands 3.
Interestingly, some players already feel this mobile spin-off is more “content complete” than recent mainline entries. The app launched with seven distinct game modes right out of the gate.
Vault Hunters & Future Borderlands Mobile Updates
Right now, players can only choose one Vault Hunter class: the Summoner. Zynga plans to add three more classes down the line. These upcoming classes include the Exo-Tank, Outrider, and Assassin. Additionally, a battle pass is in the works. Zynga has not yet revealed the specific cost or contents of this upcoming pass.
This surprise launch follows a rocky period for the franchise. Less than a year ago, Borderlands 4 faced intense pre-release price controversies. Consequently, the mainline game lost 93% of its Steam player base within just two months. Gearbox continues to patch and optimize that title.
Meanwhile, Borderlands Mobile aims to capture the lucrative mobile market. Other massive franchises like Pokémon and Call of Duty have already succeeded here. Therefore, this free iOS release might perfectly tide fans over while they wait for future Borderlands 4 DLC. Currently, the developers have not confirmed an Android release.
