Bruce Straley, the co-creator of The Last of Us and director of Uncharted 4, returns to the spotlight tomorrow. After a nine-year hiatus from game reveals, Straley will debut his new studio’s first title at The Game Awards (TGA) 2025.
Show host Geoff Keighley and Straley’s studio, Wildflower Interactive, confirmed the news on social media. This announcement marks a major moment for the industry, as fans have eagerly awaited Straley’s next move since his departure from Naughty Dog.
To build hype, Geoff Keighley posted a short, 30-second video teaser. The footage offers a glimpse into what Wildflower Interactive has been building. The video features a beautiful cel-shaded forest. A bird perches atop a wooden road sign, surrounded by the sounds of wildlife and wind. Eventually, the bird flies away as an unseen character faintly says, “Come on”.
The trailer fades to black, displaying only the logos for Wildflower Interactive and The Game Awards. Unfortunately, the teaser did not reveal the game’s name or genre. Therefore, fans must tune in to the live broadcast to get the full details.
Bruce Straley boasts decades of experience. He spent the majority of his career at Naughty Dog, where he worked for 17 years. During that time, he co-created The “Last of Us” alongside Neil Druckmann and directed both “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves” and “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End”. His earlier credits include artist roles for “Crash Team Racing” and the “Jak and Daxter” trilogy.
After leaving Naughty Dog, Straley publicly revealed Wildflower Interactive in 2022. The studio operates in a fully remote environment. Straley aims to keep the studio “inclusive, equitable, and collaborative”. Now, years after helping craft some of PlayStation’s best sequels, his team is ready to show their work.
The Game Awards 2025 airs this week. You can watch the broadcast on platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok. Coverage begins on December 11 at 7:30 PM Eastern / December 12 at 5:30 AM Pakistan Standard Time, with a 30-minute pre-show, followed immediately by the main ceremony.
In addition to Wildflower’s reveal, the show will feature extended looks at Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem and Sony’s Saros. However, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time will not appear.
