The OnePlus 6T will debut next week, but the first OnePlus 7 details are already here

The OnePlus 6T isn’t even here yet and already the OnePlus 7 has begun to leak, first with an official tease about its 5G connectivity and now with a look at its potential display design. Come next year, Qualcomm expects two waves of 5G Android flagship launches, which likely means most Android vendors will have at least one 5G phone out in 2019, if not more. OnePlus will be one of them, as a new report suggests that the OnePlus 7 might be the first OnePlus phone to sport 5G connectivity.

According to Engadget, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei said that the company will release a 5G device next year. Without explicitly mentioning the OnePlus 7 by name, Pei said that to his knowledge OnePlus will be one of the first, if not the first company to launch a 5G phone. The exec also said that OnePlus had already conducted a 5G test at Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego.

A possible new design?

A new render reveals what the Oppo R19 could look like, which more than likely means it’s also what the OnePlus 7 design will be. The OnePlus 6T is designed just like the Oppo R17 since both brands are owned by the same parent company. Expect the same repetition to appear for the OnePlus 7. For those who are not aware, OnePlus and Oppo have the same parent company, so any design that OnePlus adopts is first tested on Oppo’s phones. The teardrop notch is a good example of it.

After a frustrating year of notches, it seems that we may be able to finally witness that once prophecized all-screen display. The parent company of OnePlus also owns Vivo, which has already shown off a truly all-screen phone that uses a pop-up selfie camera. In this case, the phone appears to sport a front-facing selfie camera that sits without any notch edging, floating at the top of the display. Another evidence that goe with this claim is that the use of a fingerprint reader in the display. While the OnePlus 6T will use an optical sensor, the next generation OnePlus 7 will likely go for the ultrasonic in-display reader that Samsung is apparently developing for its Galaxy S10. The OnePlus 7 likely won’t arrive until at least half-way through 2019.
