CD Projekt Red just dropped a massive bombshell at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is officially getting a remaster. Best of all, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches on Tuesday, September 29, as a completely free update for existing owners.
Originally released in May 2015, the genre-defining RPG has sold over 65 million units worldwide. Now, more than 11 years later, developers are breathing new life into the Northern Realms with a massive overhaul.
The Witcher 3 Remastered: Next-Gen Upgrades & New Platforms
The upcoming remaster includes the base game alongside the ‘Hearts of Stone’ and ‘Blood and Wine’ expansions. Furthermore, CD Projekt Red is bringing the title to exciting new storefronts and hardware. The Witcher 3 Remastered will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 and Blizzard’s Battle.net. Additionally, the game joins the Xbox Play Anywhere program.
Players can expect a slew of massive graphical upgrades. The remaster officially supports cutting-edge upscaling technologies, specifically Nvidia DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 4. Developers also promised platform-specific tweaks tailored explicitly for PS5 Pro and Switch 2 users.
The update changes more than just the visuals. Developers completely revamped the game’s skill tree and improved the menu navigation. Meanwhile, players must stay on their toes during combat. The studio rebalanced monster behaviors, meaning the creatures plaguing the continent are now more unpredictable.

“Songs of the Past” & Diablo 4 Crossover
CD Projekt Red did not stop at technical upgrades. The studio surprised fans by teasing a brand-new, third expansion titled Songs of the Past. This upcoming storyline takes Geralt to Letten. This new region features rich folklore and vibrant festivals, but it hides a dormant darkness beneath the surface. Consequently, this expansion serves as Geralt’s final hunt before he officially passes the torch to Ciri, who will take over as the main protagonist in The Witcher 4.
Finally, the developers announced an unexpected collaboration. Content based on The Witcher 3 will officially arrive in Blizzard’s Diablo 4 via a future update. Fans must wait until BlizzCon on September 12 and 13 to learn the full details regarding this massive crossover.
