Crystal Dynamics stole the show at The Game Awards 2025. The developer officially revealed not one, but two major projects for the Tomb Raider franchise. Both titles utilise Unreal Engine 5 and are published by Amazon Games. This marks the first significant update since the partnership was announced in December 2022.
The first reveal, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, is a remake of Lara Croft’s original 1996 adventure. It targets a 2026 release window on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The TGA 2025 trailer confirms a return to the classic aesthetic. Lara sports her iconic teal shirt, a single long braid, and dual-wields Browning Hi-Power style handguns. However, this is not a 1:1 remake. The trailer showcases a grapple hook, a mechanic originally absent in 1996 but introduced in 2007’s Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Fans also spotted a tease for the legendary T-Rex encounter.
Historically, this is the fifth version of the inaugural game, following the original, the Gold expansion, the Anniversary remake, and the recent Remastered collection.
The second announcement introduces a brand-new entry, Tomb Raider: Catalyst. Previously rumoured as “Tomb Raider 12”, this title targets a 2027 launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
Catalyst promises a narrative set after a “mythical cataclysm”. The story involves ancient secrets, not-too-friendly guardians, and implied time travel elements. Unlike the globe-trotting nature of the remake, Catalyst focuses on multiple locations across Northern India. Here, Lara will battle the world’s most notorious treasure hunters.
While the games are moving forward, Amazon’s live-action TV adaptation lags behind. Reports indicate the screenplay is still not finalised, so don’t expect a series tie-in anytime soon.
