Top 47 Pakistani Universities Listed in 2025 World Rankings

LAHORE: Times Higher Education (THE) has included 47 universities from Pakistan in its prestigious 2025 World University Rankings.

In the rankings, Quaid-i-Azam University Islam­abad is positioned between 400 and 500, with a number of additional institutions ranging from 601 to 800.

Among these are the following:

  • Air University Islamabad
  • Capital University of Science and Technology
  • COMSATS University Islamabad
  • Gover­nment College University Faisalabad
  • National University of Sciences and Technology Islamabad
  • Sukkur IBA University
  • University of Engineering and Technology Taxila
  • University of Malakand Dir Lower

 

There are a number of universities in Pakistan that are ranked between 800 and 1000. These include Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, International Islamic University Islamabad, Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology Rahim Yar Khan, Lahore University of Management Sciences, PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, University of Central Punjab Lahore, University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, University of Gujrat, University of Lahore, University of Management and Technology Lahore, University of the Punjab Lahore, and University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore.

In the range of 1001 to 1200, twelve colleges and universities are ranked, eight more between 1201 and 1500, and five more in the range of 1501 and above. Another 48 universities are listed as “reporters,” indicating that they provided the required data but did not meet the ranking requirements.

Oxford has maintained its top position in the Times Higher Education rankings for the ninth consecutive year.

There are over 2,000 institutions representing 115 different nations and territories in the 2025 rankings.

Oxford retains its top rank for the ninth consecutive year, due to advances in industry interaction and teaching. Stanford fell to sixth place, while MIT jumped to second.

China is strengthening its global research influence and is also moving closer to the top ten. At the same time, the international standing and reputation of Australia’s top five universities have declined, leading to a fall in their rankings. An increase in emerging markets in higher education is indicated by the fact that three new countries, namely Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, have joined the top 200.

Ranking Methodology

Institutions are evaluated in five critical areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry participation, and worldwide orientation. The rankings are based on the most recent WUR 3.0 methodology, which employs 18 variables that have been fine-tuned. With 185 more institutions included this year, the total number of ranked universities in the 2025 rankings is 2,092. A total of 2,860 institutions provided data, yielding 472,694 data points.
