UAE Hits 145 Gbps in 6G Terahertz Pilot: A Major Milestone
The United Arab Emirates has successfully completed its first 6G Terahertz (THz) pilot, reaching an impressive 145 gigabits per second (Gbps). This test, conducted by e& UAE in collaboration with New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi, marks the first large-scale trial of its kind in the Middle East.
The milestone highlights the future of ultra-high capacity and low latency networks. It also demonstrates 6G’s potential to power advanced technologies such as holographic telepresence, extended reality (XR), digital twins, and terabit-class backhaul for smart cities and industries.
Faster-Than-Instant Responses
Masood M. Sharif Mahmood, CEO of e& UAE, described the achievement as a step toward a future where 6G networks offer faster-than-instant responses, near-fail-proof uptime, and built-in security. He also emphasized the vision of creating a “network of networks” by integrating terrestrial, satellite, and high-altitude platforms to ensure seamless global coverage.
Marwan Bin Shaker, Acting CTIO at e& UAE, added that this successful pilot underlines 6G’s transformative power to reshape connectivity for individuals, businesses, and cities alike.
Global Efforts Toward 6G
While the UAE focuses on real-world trials, other players like Verizon are leading strategic discussions and research initiatives to shape the future of 6G. Verizon has launched innovation forums and lab programs to explore spectrum, AI integration, and standards development. Read more about Verizon’s 6G plans here.
UAE’s Road Ahead
This pilot signals more than just speed. It reflects the UAE’s ambition to lead in intelligent, immersive, and sustainable communication ecosystems. With this achievement, the country positions itself as a serious global contender in the race toward next-generation connectivity.
