Ubisoft officially confirmed the long-rumored remake of Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag. Furthermore, the publisher revealed the official title as “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced”. This announcement arrived as part of the massive “Assassin’s Creed: Into 2026” franchise update.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: The Return of Edward Kenway
Ubisoft released a piece of concept art to confirm the news. The image shows protagonist Edward Kenway standing on a ship’s mast. Additionally, the bottom right corner displays the new official title. The developers also included a brief quote teasing the game.
However, Ubisoft did not provide a release window. They also withheld details regarding gameplay, story, or art style changes. Previously, rumors suggested a March 2026 release. Unfortunately, recent Ubisoft restructurings dashed those plans.
Rumors about this remake first surfaced in June 2023. Kotaku claimed Ubisoft greenlit a ground-up remake. Later, Insider Gaming reported full development started in September 2023. They subsequently noted a delay due to the pushback of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. By December 2025, an ESRB listing leaked the “Resynced” title.
Massive Updates for the Franchise
The “Into 2026” report shared major updates for other upcoming projects. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is officially entering its final phase of support. Meanwhile, developers described Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe as a unique, darker, narrative-driven experience. Jean Guesdon recently took over directing Hexe after Clint Hocking departed Ubisoft last week.
Next, Ubisoft provided an official description for Assassin’s Creed: Codename Invictus. A dedicated team of “For Honor” veterans at Ubisoft Montreal leads this PvP multiplayer experience. Interestingly, Ubisoft clarified that Invictus represents a new multiplayer approach. They explicitly stated it will not imitate Fall Guys, contrary to previous 2024 leaks.
Unity Patch & Future Projects
Ubisoft briefly confirmed Assassin’s Creed Jade remains in development. Additionally, developers are actively working on the return of co-op multiplayer. The publisher also teased an upcoming reveal for the live-action Netflix show. Finally, a 60 FPS update for Assassin’s Creed Unity officially drops today, March 5, 2026.
