Ubisoft recently announced Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. This modernized version arrives on July 9, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Moreover, players can access it as a standalone purchase or via Ubisoft+ on PC. The game is not a direct one-to-one remake. Instead, the studio refined popular features and reworked elements that aged poorly.
Specifically, developers removed the playable modern-day Abstergo office sequences. As a result, the story now focuses heavily on Edward. His memories connect to the Animus through new optional rifts. While the core narrative remains intact, developers expanded it significantly.
For instance, Ubisoft Singapore Creative Director Paul Fu confirmed a brand-new endgame chapter. This chapter is titled “A World Without Gold”. Furthermore, lead writer Darby McDevitt wrote a new ending scene for the game. This scene hints at an important character’s poignant story. Therefore, fans expect this new scene to appear right before the final mission.
Expanded Gameplay & Map Changes in Black Flag Resynced
Ubisoft expanded and remixed the original map. They added new material and reshuffled existing content. For example, players will find collectibles like the Tabulae Rudolphinae and the Voynich Manuscript in entirely new locations.
Additionally, players will notice several gameplay upgrades. A new shanty selector lets players directly choose songs instead of just skipping them. Moreover, a new rescue mission rewards players with a recruitable crew member, Lucy Baldwin. She effectively boosts the ship’s damage-bracing defenses. Finally, the game introduces 15 new collectible messages. These messages directly reference a mysterious faction known as “The Watchers”.
The Future of the Franchise
Following the release of Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft plans to launch Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. This next mainline entry takes place in the 16th-century Holy Roman Empire. Separately, rumors suggest Ubisoft is currently developing a remake of the very first Assassin’s Creed game.
