US agencies have officially gained approval to use Meta’s Llama AI, the company’s advanced artificial intelligence system. The move comes as the Trump administration accelerates efforts to integrate commercial AI tools into government operations.
According to General Services Administration (GSA) procurement lead Josh Gruenbaum, Llama has been added to the list of approved AI systems available for federal agencies. This allows government departments to experiment with Meta’s free tool under the assurance that it meets strict security and legal standards.
Meta’s Llama AI is a large language model capable of processing text, video, images, and audio. Federal agencies are expected to deploy the system to streamline processes such as contract review and resolving information technology issues more efficiently.
In recent months, GSA has also approved AI tools from Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI. These companies agreed to offer their paid services at discounted rates while meeting the government’s security requirements.
Gruenbaum emphasized that the push to adopt AI tools like Meta’s Llama AI is not about political favor but about uniting the private sector and government to strengthen the country’s technological capabilities.
