The vivo X500 Ultra is still far from launch, but new leaks have already started revealing details about its camera system. The flagship phone is expected to debut globally in early 2027, and a fresh report now focuses on its telephoto camera.
According to a well-known source, Vivo’s imaging team has not yet finalized the sensor for the phone’s periscope telephoto camera. The company is reportedly considering three different 200MP sensors with sizes of 1/1.12-inch, 1/1.3-inch, and 1/1.4-inch.
The choice of sensor could have a big impact on the phone’s design and camera performance. A larger 1/1.12-inch sensor can capture more light and deliver better image quality, especially in low-light conditions. However, it also takes up more internal space and requires a more complicated camera design.
Meanwhile, the 1/1.3-inch and 1/1.4-inch sensors offer a more balanced approach. These sensors can help keep the phone thinner while still delivering strong camera performance.
For comparison, the current vivo X300 Ultra uses a 1/1.4-inch sensor for its 3.7x telephoto camera. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra, on the other hand, features the 1/1.3-inch Samsung ISOCELL HP2 sensor.
The latest report also matches earlier rumors about vivo changing its camera plans. Previous leaks claimed that the company could drop the idea of including a dedicated 10x telephoto camera. Instead, vivo may introduce a new in-sensor zoom technology, although details about this feature remain unclear.
A large 200MP sensor combined with 10x optical zoom could make the camera module too large. Therefore, vivo may be looking for a different solution that balances image quality and phone design.
At this stage, nothing has been confirmed by the company. The vivo X500 Ultra is still many months away from launch, and more changes could happen before the hardware is finalized. As a result, additional leaks are likely to emerge in the coming months.
