WhatsApp is set to introduce revamped call options for individual and group chats, aiming to improve user convenience and reduce accidental calls.
The latest beta version includes a new call link feature, making it easier than ever to start audio and video calls directly from the chat interface. Instead of navigating multiple tabs, users can now access this shortcut through the chat attachment sheet by simply clicking the attachment icon in the conversation bar.
To further enhance the calling experience, WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is developing a unified call menu to replace the current two-button system. The existing setup often leads to unintended calls, as pressing either button instantly initiates a call.
With this update, the two separate call buttons will be merged into a single menu with expanded options, particularly benefiting group calls. Instead of calling an entire group at once, users will be able to select specific participants before placing a call. Additionally, a new shortcut for instant call links has been added, making it more accessible without needing to open the attachment menu or Calls tab.
A key advantage of this upgrade is the reduction of accidental calls. The revised menu introduces an additional step where users must confirm the call type, providing an extra layer of security before dialing.
Currently, these major updates are in testing and have been rolled out to a limited number of WhatsApp users.
