WhatsApp to Test Broadcast Message Limits to Combat Spam

WhatsApp is introducing a new feature to limit the number of broadcast messages users can send each month, as part of an effort to reduce spam and promote responsible use of the app’s broadcast functionality.
This update is currently being tested with beta users through the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.14.15), which is available on the Google Play Store.
One key element of the update is a new “broadcast management” section within the app’s settings. This section will allow users to easily manage their broadcast lists and monitor their message usage. It will display how many messages have been sent and how many are left to send in the current month.
Currently, the test limits users to sending 35 broadcast messages per month. Though this limit may vary depending on factors like the user account type or region. This restriction is not final and could change before the feature is rolled out more widely.
The feature aims to encourage more intentional use of the broadcast tool, nudging users toward WhatsApp’s alternative communication options, such as Status Updates and WhatsApp Channels.
Status updates allow users to share content with all their contacts without the constraints of broadcast limits. Meanwhile, Channels are designed for one-to-many communication, offering a more efficient way to share updates with large groups.
WhatsApp plans to introduce an option for business users to increase their broadcast limit through a subscription plan. However, businesses are still encouraged to explore other options like Status Updates and Channels to communicate with their audience.
This new feature is expected to be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks. It marks a shift in how WhatsApp handles mass communication and works to reduce spam.
