Naughty Dog boasts a legendary track record. From ‘Crash Bandicoot’ to ‘The Last of Us’, the developer consistently delivers critically acclaimed hits. However, the studio has not released a brand-new game this console generation. Thus far, they have only shipped a remake and a remaster for the PS5. Fortunately, that dry spell is almost over. The studio officially has two announced projects in the pipeline. Furthermore, a massive third game recently leaked.
Intergalactic, The Last of Us & A Brand-New Uncharted Experience
Fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming sci-fi action-adventure game, ‘Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’. Rumors point to a 2027 release date. Meanwhile, Naughty Dog confirmed total silence regarding the game for the rest of 2026. Therefore, players must wait until next year for concrete details.
Additionally, the developer confirmed multiple ‘The Last of Us’ projects currently in the works. The studio might salvage elements from its canceled multiplayer game. Alternatively, they might focus entirely on a proper ‘The Last of Us Part 3’. Either way, expect a long wait before seeing these projects in action.
According to recent leaks, a new ‘Uncharted’ game is currently in active development. Supposedly, this project will launch before any new The Last of Us titles materialize. Furthermore, this project is a brand-new release, not a remake. Longtime series hero Nathan Drake will reportedly feature in the game in some capacity. ‘Uncharted 4’ wrapped up the overarching story perfectly. Still, the franchise remains simply too massive for PlayStation to ignore.
Will Naughty Dog Target the PS6 with Uncharted?
The massive gap between releases raises an important question about hardware. Sony plans to launch the PlayStation 6 around 2028, according to previous court documents. However, the ongoing RAM crisis, struggling economies, and global supply chain issues could easily delay those plans.
Consequently, this new Uncharted could release directly on next-gen hardware. Alternatively, Sony might follow its previous PS4 transition strategy. In that scenario, the company would launch the game as a cross-gen release for both the PS5 and PS6.
