FromSoftware recently concluded the first network test for its upcoming Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods. Players finally got their hands on the game’s highly unusual roster of “Bloodsworn” characters over the weekend. However, one fighter quickly stole the spotlight. His name is Zork, and in The Duskbloods he looks completely out of place.
The Duskbloods features a deliberately diverse cast. FromSoftware abandoned its traditional Victorian Gothic aesthetic for this title. Instead, the developers pulled influences from various distinct time periods. Zork perfectly represents this wild shift in design.
He wears a bulky, early industrial diving suit. He fights using underwater equipment and launches missiles from his back. Furthermore, a unique “Human Rocket” ability lets him forcefully propel himself across the battlefield.
Online communities quickly crowned Zork as the game’s unofficial mascot. Players started sharing fan art, including a heavily circulated piece by a Twitter user. Some fans even expressed an “almost maternal” attachment to the bizarre character.

Meanwhile, Reddit discussions exploded. Users filled threads by simply posting “ZORK” and joking about “Zorking it”. The character dominated memes throughout the entire testing period.

The Duskbloods ‘Zork’ is More Than Just Comic Relief
Despite his ridiculous appearance, Zork is genuinely dangerous in multiplayer matches. He operates as a slow, heavy fighter. He packs strong melee options alongside his erratic mobility. Testers found his heavy attacks highly effective at close range. However, his slow speed leaves him vulnerable against faster opponents.
Zork also features a very strange quirk. His beak extends like a straw so he can drink blood. Players can see this animation clearly after securing a victory.
Interestingly, FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki named Zork as one of his favorite characters to play. Miyazaki revealed that monsters emerging from the ocean in Ultraman and Ultra Seven directly inspired the design. Therefore, the development team never intended Zork to exist purely as comic relief.
A Balanced Bloodsworn Roster
While Zork easily dominates the meme competition, the actual gameplay debate remains tight. The network test showcased several other highly viable characters.
Players praised Sniper Layla for her excellent ranged options. They also enjoyed the unique transformation abilities of Senator Samir Patres. Other notable characters drawing positive attention include Albert, Jan, and Trang Lanh.
This variety is an encouraging sign. A successful multiplayer game heavily relies on characters remaining interesting across repeated matches. Still, Zork accomplished something special before the game even launched. He conquered the internet and became the undeniable face of the first testing weekend.
