The federal government has removed the five-litre petrol limit per token under the fuel relief scheme, and has made the registration message free of charge.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the special relief programme for the public after a rise in global oil prices.
She said motorcycles, chingchi rickshaws and rickshaws that fill less than 5 litres of petrol will receive a weekly discount of Rs500.
All motorcycles and chingchi rickshaws registered after January 1, 2006, are eligible to register under the scheme. Two- and three-wheeled vehicles account for 91.6 percent of registrations, while vehicles up to 800cc make up 8.4 percent.
Shaza Fatima said 1,493,848 fuel tokens have been issued so far, and 655,067 citizens have received fuel under the scheme. She urged the public not to share personal information with anyone to avoid fraud.
