Telenor Pakistan closed 2024 with 43.2 million subscriptions and recorded service revenues of NOK 3.81 billion, reflecting an 8.8% growth compared to the previous year. The company’s EBITDA surged 25.2% during the same period.
According to parent company Telenor, service revenue grew by 12%, driven by a robust monetization strategy. Average revenue per user (ARPU) rose by 13%, which helped offset a 2.7% decline in the subscription base.
In December 2023, Telenor signed an agreement to sell its operations in Pakistan to PTCL, subject to regulatory approvals. The deal is expected to be finalized in the first half of 2025.
The deal includes the sale of 100% of Telenor Pakistan’s telecom operations to PTCL. However, regulatory clearances and customary terms have caused delays. Earlier reports suggested the transaction might extend into early 2025, but recent updates indicate a revised timeline.
The potential acquisition of Telenor by PTCL could significantly reshape the competitive landscape in Pakistan’s telecom sector. If approved, it would combine PTCL’s infrastructure strength with Telenor’s customer base and mobile expertise, offering the possibility of enhanced services for consumers.
However, the deal’s impact on the market will depend on how well the integration process unfolds and whether regulatory conditions are met without delay.
