PIA Flight from Karachi to Lahore Lands Without One Rear Wheel
LAHORE: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight traveling from Karachi to Lahore landed at Allama Iqbal International Airport without one of its rear wheels. The incident prompted an immediate investigation to determine the cause.
Following the safe landing of Flight PK-306, a post-flight inspection confirmed that one rear wheel was missing. Despite a 14-hour search at both Karachi and Lahore airports, the missing wheel could not be found.
However, a portion of the tyre shaft was later discovered near Karachi Airport after Lahore’s Air Traffic Control (ATC) issued an alert.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) stated in a preliminary report that the most probable cause of the incident was an external object striking the runway at Karachi Airport.
A PIA spokesperson also pointed out irregularities on the runway but emphasized that the final investigation report would determine the exact reason behind the wheel’s loss.
