ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s first fast electric vehicle (EV) charging station was inaugurated in Islamabad by Federal Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari. Developed by GoGreen Avenue, the 120KW charging facility is part of the country’s efforts to expand clean energy and sustainable transportation infrastructure.
Reduction in EV Charging Rates
During the inauguration, the minister announced a reduction in EV charging rates from Rs71 to Rs39 per unit, with the aim of making electric vehicles more accessible. Further reductions in charging costs are expected in the future.
Leghari highlighted the role of public-private partnerships in promoting green energy and emphasized the potential benefits of EV adoption in reducing carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.
Electricity Prices and Future Plans
The minister stated that electricity prices are expected to decrease, and a relief package for power consumers is being planned. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has indicated that adjustments in electricity tariffs will reflect changes in global oil prices.
Additionally, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a request for a monthly fuel price adjustment for February, with reports showing electricity production costs slightly below the reference price.
The launch of the fast EV charging station marks a step towards developing infrastructure to support electric mobility in Pakistan, with further initiatives expected to promote clean energy and economic sustainability.
