The National Assembly passed the Special Technology Zones Authority (Amendment) Bill 2025 on Monday, aiming to accelerate Pakistan’s tech-driven growth. The bill, introduced by Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, was approved with a majority vote.
The Special Technology Zones Authority (Amendment) Bill 2025 is designed to enhance the regulatory and operational efficiency of the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA). According to Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, the amendments seek to streamline governance, attract both local and foreign investments, and foster innovation within designated tech zones.
These special technology zones are key to transforming Pakistan’s technology landscape by providing a favorable environment for startups and global enterprises alike. The revised legislation is expected to further strengthen the framework supporting these zones, contributing to long-term economic growth and innovation.
In addition to the bill’s passage, seven reports from various parliamentary committees were presented. Five new bills were also referred to the relevant committees for detailed examination.
Meanwhile, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik submitted the Off the Grid (Captive Power Plants) Levy Ordinance, 2025 (No. I of 2025) before the National Assembly in accordance with clause (2) of Article 89 of the Constitution.
