In a major move toward sustainable transport, Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr. Athar Waheed has proposed an electric bus service linking four major Punjab cities Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, and Sheikhupura to combat rising traffic congestion, accidents, and air pollution.
With Lahore struggling under severe smog and daily inflows of nearly one million vehicles, the city’s transport infrastructure faces immense pressure. The proposed plan aims to integrate eco-friendly mobility while addressing the city’s growing environmental and traffic woes.
Under the proposal, the first phase will launch E-bus services connecting Lahore to Kasur, Nankana Sahib, and Sheikhupura. In the second phase, these routes will integrate with an intercity metro train network, creating a unified public transport corridor.
According to Dr. Waheed,
“This initiative will significantly reduce travel costs, save commute time, and curb vehicular emissions, ultimately improving Lahore’s air quality.”
The proposal has been submitted to the Commissioner Lahore for review and approval. If implemented, it could mark a turning point in Punjab’s shift toward clean, efficient urban mobility.
