WhatsApp is taking another step to curb spam by testing new restrictions on how many messages users and businesses can send to people who don’t reply.
Originally built for quick chats between friends and family, WhatsApp has evolved into a platform for communities, groups, and businesses. But as these features expanded, so did the flood of messages, making it harder for users to manage their inboxes.
Under the new policy, every message sent to someone who hasn’t responded will count toward a monthly limit. For example, if a user meets a new contact at an event and sends three messages without getting a reply, all three will count against their quota.
WhatsApp hasn’t confirmed the exact number yet, as the feature is still being tested with different limits. When a user or business nears the threshold, WhatsApp will issue a pop-up warning showing how many messages remain before hitting the cap. This will help users avoid being temporarily blocked from sending more messages.
According to the source, the new limits will roll out in several countries over the coming weeks. According to WhatsApp, most users won’t reach the limit, so their experience should remain unaffected. Instead, the measure primarily targets spammers and businesses that send large volumes of unwanted messages.
