WhatsApp has announced several new features to improve group chats, giving users more ways to share updates and manage conversations. The changes include Group Status updates, permanent message pins, and a new filter for unread group messages.
The biggest addition is Group Status, which allows members to share Status updates exclusively with people in a group. Other members can view, react to, and like these updates. They can also share their own statuses within the group. Like regular WhatsApp Status updates, Group Statuses automatically disappear after 24 hours.

WhatsApp is also making it easier for new members to catch up on group conversations. Group admins could already share a group’s message history when adding someone. Now, existing members can share older messages with new members even after they have joined. Users can access this option by tapping the new member’s name in the group chat.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is removing the time limit on pinned group messages. Users can now pin important messages permanently, keeping them accessible without worrying about an expiration time.
The update also introduces a new chat filter for unread group conversations. It highlights groups where users have been mentioned or received a direct reply. The filter also includes messages sent using the @all feature, making it easier to find important group discussions.
