The Punjab government is gearing up to introduce its first provincial airline, Air Punjab, a move that could reshape the region’s transport landscape. The ambitious project has now entered an advanced stage, with an Rs. 1 billion funding request recently submitted to the finance department.
Officials said the provincial government has already granted formal approval for Air Punjab. The next phase involves setting a final budget and securing key operational resources before the airline’s debut.
As reported by Express News, the government intends to lease five aircraft to kickstart operations. Talks with multiple aviation companies are underway to finalize leasing agreements, though the total cost of the venture remains under review.
To ensure smooth management, the Punjab government is also weighing options for creating an air authority or oversight board. In parallel, an application for an operating license has already been sent to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
When launched, Air Punjab is expected to enhance domestic air connectivity and make regional travel more accessible. The initiative marks a pivotal step in Punjab’s broader strategy to modernize and diversify its transportation network.
