In a major step toward modernizing infrastructure, the Punjab government has announced plans to digitize 38 toll plazas across 24 districts under the Works and Communications Department. The initiative aims to bring transparency, efficiency, and automation to toll collection through an electronic toll collection (ETC) system.
During a meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Works and Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharath, officials briefed that the new digital system will automatically verify vehicles, reduce manual errors, and curb revenue leakages ensuring smooth toll operations across the province.
Minister Bharath said that the project will be implemented in phases across major districts including Attock, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Murree, and Vehari, among others.
He added,
“The digital toll plazas will not only enhance revenue transparency but also improve travel convenience and time efficiency for citizens.”
The move aligns with Punjab’s broader smart governance and digital transformation goals, focusing on automation, accountability, and improved service delivery. Experts believe this step could serve as a model for other provinces, reducing corruption and optimizing infrastructure management.
