Customs Foil Major Silver Smuggling Attempts in Multiple Operations
Authorities have carried out a series of successful enforcement actions across Pakistan, confiscating large quantities of smuggled silver and vehicles used for illegal transportation under the Chief Collectorate of Customs Enforcement in Islamabad.
Acting on specific intelligence, the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Quetta intercepted a Toyota Axio in the Yaroo area and recovered a significant consignment of smuggled silver. The seizure included 40 fine silver bricks weighing 39,996 grams, 36 silver biscuits weighing 9,000 grams, and the vehicle itself valued at Rs6 million. According to officials, the total estimated value of the operation has reached Rs26.76 million. The car and the smuggled items have been secured as investigations move forward.
In two back-to-back intelligence-based operations, Customs Enforcement Karachi intercepted attempts to transport smuggled silver through the Mochko Check Post on the RCD Highway.
First Raid Recovers 25kg of Smuggled Silver from Passenger Bus
In the first raid, officials stopped a passenger bus arriving from Gwadar, recovering 25 kilograms of smuggled silver valued at nearly Rs12 million. The silver was hidden in luggage belonging to a passenger who could not provide valid import documentation.
In the second operation, officers intercepted another passenger bus and discovered 20 kilograms of silver bars worth around Rs9 million. Both the bus and its crew were detained, and the smuggled silver was taken into custody under the Customs Act of 1969.
Customs officials confirmed that inquiries are underway to trace the origin of the smuggled silver, identify the transport routes, and determine the wider network involved. The coordinated actions in Quetta and Karachi highlight the department’s continuing efforts to curb the illegal movement of precious metals across the country.
