The federal government has advanced to the next phase of its airport privatisation plan, moving toward offering the management of Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi international airports on a long-term concession basis.
The step follows the Privatisation Commission Board’s earlier proposal, which included the three airports in Pakistan’s ongoing privatisation programme aimed at improving operational efficiency and attracting private investment.
Officials said the concession model will invite private operators to manage the airports under a transparent and performance-based framework.
“This initiative is designed to modernize airport services and align them with international standards while reducing the state’s administrative burden,” an official stated.
The move is part of the government’s broader plan to strengthen public-private partnerships, improve infrastructure quality, and enhance Pakistan’s global aviation competitiveness.
