The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a man accused of hacking a citizens WhatsApp account and defrauding the victims contacts of Rs1.3 million.
An agency spokesperson said the suspect, Muhammad Sultan, son of Muhammad Yousaf, was detained in a targeted raid in his hometown of Panserah, Faisalabad, on November 2, 2026.
Investigators found that Sultan posed as a courier company representative and contacted the victim. He sent a fraudulent link and obtained a verification code, which gave him access to the WhatsApp account of the victim.
He then impersonated the account holder and asked the acquaintances for money, collecting Rs1.3 million. The victim reported the matter to the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Islamabad, where a case was registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
Authorities traced the suspect through technical means, seized the mobile phone used in the crime and recovered key digital evidence for the legal proceedings. NCCIA Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said action will continue against those involved in account hacking and online fraud.
