Google has officially begun rolling out its Gemini AI to the Google TV Streamer, replacing Google Assistant. The new upgrade allows users to interact more naturally with their TV using conversational voice commands for entertainment, learning, and everyday queries.
The move is part of Google’s broader plan to phase out Assistant and integrate Gemini across all its devices. Gemini was first previewed in select TCL models in September and announced at CES 2025 as the next-gen AI experience for Google TV.
With Gemini, users can ask personalized and contextual questions such as, “I like dramas but my wife likes comedies what’s a movie we can watch together?” or “What happened at the end of Outlander last season?”
Google says the AI goes beyond TV content users can also ask educational questions or request help with DIY tasks and recipes via YouTube integration. The update will be available to users aged 18 and older over the next few weeks through the remote’s microphone button.
A Google spokesperson stated,
“Gemini brings a new level of intelligence and personalization to home entertainment, turning your TV into a smart, conversational assistant.”
The update extends Gemini’s availability to devices like Walmart’s Onn 4K Pro and upcoming Hisense and TCL models, making it a key part of Google’s AI-driven ecosystem strategy.
