Ogdcl Confirms High Yield Oil Gas Discovery At Baragzai Field In Kp

Pakistan continues to struggle with rising energy demand and dependence on imported fuels. The Nashpa Block has been a key exploration zone for years, with OGDCL leading multiple joint ventures to explore deeper formations and unlock new reserves.

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced that its exploratory well Baragzai X-01 (Slant) has successfully produced 2,280 barrels of oil per day and 5.6 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, tested through a 32/64” choke at a flowing wellhead pressure of 2400 psi. The well was spud-in on December 24, 2024 and drilled to 5,170 meters, where a 90-meter-thick interval of the Triassic-age Kingirali Formation was encountered.

The well’s promising hydrocarbons led to a successful drill stem test (DST). OGDCL stated,

“This discovery has de-risked deeper exploration in the region and will support Pakistan in closing the energy supply demand gap through indigenous resources.”

OGDCL holds 65% working interest, with Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) having 30%, and Government Holdings (Pvt.) Limited (GHPL) owning 5% carried interest.

This discovery is expected to enhance local production, strengthen national reserves, and empower strategic energy independence for Pakistan’s future.
