Local goods transporters’ associations have announced a nationwide strike starting tomorrow, bringing all transport operations, including loading and unloading at ports, to a complete halt. The protest aims to pressure the government to address their longstanding demands.

Transporters have raised concerns over unresolved issues despite prior negotiations with the Transport Minister. Previous assurances of resolution were later denied by the Punjab government, fueling the decision for a nationwide strike.

Malik Shehzad, President of the Transporters Goods Association, warned,

“We are on full protest and will not resume work until our demands are addressed. The government cannot expect us to completely shut down our business.”

The strike has already disrupted the delivery of essential goods in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with numerous trucks and containers halted. Tariq Gujar, President of the Local Goods Transporters Association, stated that the strike decision was made unanimously and will continue until all demands are met. Shakeel Qureshi of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance emphasized that delays in essential deliveries will be the government’s responsibility.

This nationwide strike highlights the growing tension between transporters and authorities, signaling potential challenges for supply chains and essential goods distribution if the demands remain unresolved.
