Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formally launched the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme 2025 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, extending the flagship youth initiative to another province. Speaking at the University of Haripur, the premier said the scheme is aimed at empowering students with skills and opportunities needed to compete globally, not merely distributing laptops.
The laptop scheme has already benefited more than one million students across Pakistan in previous phases. Designed to promote merit-based access to technology, the initiative is part of broader education and digital inclusion reforms focused on youth development.
Addressing students and officials, Shehbaz Sharif said,
“This programme is about creating an environment where our youth can innovate, excel, and lead Pakistan into the future.”
He stressed that national progress depends on investing in young people across all provinces without discrimination.
Linking education to economic recovery, the prime minister said Pakistan has moved away from default risk and must now pursue rapid growth through modern skills. He identified information technology, agriculture, and mineral development as priority sectors and announced plans to send student delegations to China for training in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
Responding to local demands, the prime minister announced the establishment of a Daanish School in Haripur with separate campuses for boys and girls, a dedicated women’s campus at the University of Haripur, and the construction of a bridge to improve access to educational facilities.
He also paid tribute to the people of KP and Hazara Division for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, acknowledging the role of security forces, parents, and teachers in shaping the country’s future.
