KP Rail Project

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is set to modernize train services across the province, aiming to boost passenger travel and regional trade. A key focus is the proposed Kohat–Kharlachi rail link, which officials say will transform connectivity in the area.

The decision emerged during a high-level meeting on railway development chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi at the K-P House in Islamabad. Authorities detailed that the Kohat–Kharlachi project involves constructing a 192-kilometer railway line with an estimated cost of $642 million.

Officials confirmed that the feasibility study has been completed, while land acquisition is currently underway. The project is expected to be completed within two years, offering faster travel and improved transport options for the region.

During the meeting, plans to launch a safari train on the 32-kilometer Jamrud–Landi Kotal railway track were also reviewed. The chief minister instructed relevant departments to prepare detailed plans with clear timelines for all railway projects.

Participants emphasized the importance of stronger coordination between the provincial government and Pakistan Railways. Chief Minister Afridi assured full support and cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of all railway initiatives across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
