Punjab’s Cabinet Standing Committee on Legislative Business and Privatization, chaired by Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, has unanimously approved a wide range of important legislative and policy proposals, signaling the provincial government’s push toward fiscal discipline, regulatory reforms, and stronger protection of workers’ rights.
During its 30th meeting held on Friday, the committee reviewed all agenda items and approved them without objection. The major approvals included amendments to the Provincial Motor Vehicle Ordinance, 1965, the introduction of a Juvenile Driving Permit for underage riders, and changes to the Punjab Government Advertisement Policy 2025. The committee also endorsed the Punjab Assembly’s annual session calendar for the 2026–27 parliamentary year.
In addition, proposed amendments to the Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess Act, 2015 and the Punjab Sales Tax on Services Act, 2012 were cleared, reflecting the government’s focus on improving revenue frameworks and economic management.
A notable decision was the approval of amendments to relevant rules along with the draft Punjab Home Based Workers Rules, 2024, aimed at providing legal cover and rights to home based workers across the province. Addressing the meeting, Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman emphasized that the provincial government is committed to business friendly reforms, fiscal responsibility, and safeguarding workers’ interests.
He directed concerned departments to ensure timely implementation of all approved decisions. Provincial ministers and senior government officials were also present at the meeting.
The Cabinet Standing Committee on Legislative Business and Privatization plays a key role in reviewing legal, financial, and administrative reforms before they are placed before the cabinet or assembly. The latest approvals come as Punjab continues to streamline governance and modernize its regulatory framework.
