The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise Department has announced the auction of exclusive and customised vehicle number plates, featuring prominent tribal, family, and regional names, with bidding set to begin in Peshawar on January 27. The initiative aims to modernise public services while offering collectors and vehicle owners a rare status symbol.
According to the Excise Department, the unique number plates will include tribal names such as Wazir 1, Mehsud 1, Khattak 1, and Mohmand 1, alongside family-based plates like Khan, Gandapur, Durrani, Kundi, Swati, Arbab, Khalil, Afridi, and Yousafzai 1. Plates named after regions including Malakand, Abbottabad, Kohat, and Bannu will also go under the hammer.
An Excise official said the move is part of broader reforms to “introduce innovation, transparency, and digital-driven services within the department while generating additional revenue for the province.”
The base bidding price for each special number plate has been fixed at Rs. 1 million, while interested participants must submit Rs. 100,000 as bid security. Officials clarified that failure to pay the remaining amount within the stipulated time will result in forfeiture of the security deposit.
The initiative follows similar premium number plate auctions held in other provinces, where customised registrations have gained popularity among high-end vehicle owners and collectors.
Beyond exclusivity, the scheme reflects KP’s push towards modern governance and diversified non-tax revenue streams, aligning with ongoing digitisation efforts in excise and transport services.
