Pakistan is rapidly transforming its public sector auditing process through digital innovation, a move aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and efficiency in government financial oversight.
Since 2022, the Audit Management Information System (AMIS) has been at the heart of this transformation. The system enables full digitalization of the audit process, covering everything from initial audit planning to final reporting. According to officials from the Office of the Auditor-General of Pakistan, AMIS has significantly improved both the speed and accuracy of audits, while also making information more accessible to relevant authorities.
Plans are already underway to expand AMIS for end-to-end digital integration, including creating seamless interfaces with the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Principal Accounting Officers (PAOs). This integration is expected to improve coordination, facilitate real-time data sharing, and enhance oversight of public finances.
Another key milestone is the operationalization of the Center for Government Data Analytics, inaugurated in December 2025 by the Federal Minister for Finance & Revenue. The center is set to harness advanced data analytics for more informed decision-making and precise audit assessments.
Looking ahead, the Auditor-General’s Office plans to incorporate Big Data Analytics into routine audit processes, with four specialized software licenses already secured. The office is also adopting Universal Business Language (UBL) standards to ensure secure and standardized digital data sharing between government departments.
Officials emphasized that these initiatives represent a major step toward modernizing Pakistan’s public sector auditing framework, promoting transparency, and reinforcing accountability across government institutions.
