Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has taken strict action against Haideri Beverages and Beverages Plus, the main distributors of Pepsi in Humak Model Town, Islamabad, after discovering expired, fungus-infested sugar and cockroach infestation in their warehouses. Authorities sealed the facilities and suspended all production and sale activities, raising serious concerns about food safety in popular beverages.
During a surprise raid coordinated with the ICT Assistant Commissioner, IFA officials found multiple violations, including sugar bags with tampered expiry dates, cockroach-infested sugar, and improper storage directly on the floor. Around 54,874 sugar bags across both facilities were sealed pending laboratory analysis, and the expired sugar alone is reportedly worth millions of rupees.
This is not the first time food safety authorities in Pakistan have taken action against distributors of beverages for violations of hygiene standards. The raid highlights ongoing concerns over food safety compliance in the industry, emphasizing the need for strict monitoring to protect consumers.
Officials stated that “all production, sale, and purchase activities have been suspended until further notice. Laboratory tests are being conducted on the collected samples to determine the extent of contamination.”
