China’s Shandong Xinxu Group has shown strong support for Pakistan’s ambitious Sea to Steel initiative at Port Qasim. The company has agreed to submit a detailed feasibility study for the proposed Integrated Maritime Industrial Complex, marking a significant step toward industrial modernization in Pakistan.
The Sea to Steel Green Maritime Industrial Corridor aims to link port infrastructure with industrial output, integrating shipbuilding, recycling facilities, and a domestic steel mill. Central to the initiative is the revival of the Iron Ore and Coal Berth jetty, which will facilitate ship recycling and repair. The scrap generated from these activities is expected to feed domestic steel production, reducing reliance on imported raw materials.
The project was discussed during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry. Shandong Xinxu’s feasibility study will cover:
- Financial impact assessment
- Structural and hydrographic analysis
- Detailed risk evaluation
The proposal will undergo thorough review before any final approvals are granted.
If implemented, the initiative could become one of Pakistan’s largest recent maritime and industrial investments. Port Qasim could be positioned as a regional hub for heavy industry and logistics, boosting local steel production and creating a more self-reliant industrial ecosystem.
