Lahore Development Authority has approved the commercialization of four more major roads in Lahore, marking a significant step toward expanding business activity and urban development in the city. The decision is expected to boost commercial investment and reshape traffic and property dynamics in the affected areas.
According to official details, the roads approved for commercial use include College Road from Ghazi Chowk to UET Roundabout, Defense Road from Bhobtian Chowk to Kahna, GT Road from Quaid-i-Azam Interchange to BRB Canal, and Barki Road from Ring Road to BRB Canal.
However, the commercialization of Sabzazar Road from Liaquat Chowk to Multan Road and Samanabad LOS Road has been postponed for further review.
The meeting was chaired by LDA Vice Chairman Mian Marghoob Ahmed, while Director General Tahir Farooq briefed participants on various agenda items. During the session, amendments to LDA Rules were approved in line with housing sector reforms endorsed by the provincial cabinet and proposals presented by the cabinet sub-committee.
Officials also recommended conditional permission to complete the Master Plan 2050 in accordance with court directives. Additionally, the governing body approved replanning of the sewage treatment plant site in LDA City.
Agenda items from the Directorate of Sales and Allotment were approved, along with remodeling plans for the LDA Avenue One Civic Centre. Authorities further gave the green light to launch an executive transfer service in LDA City to facilitate residents, introducing a plot transfer facility similar to other LDA housing schemes.
The LDA regularly reviews commercialization proposals to regulate land use, generate revenue, and promote structured urban growth. Commercialization of major corridors typically leads to increased property values and business opportunities, but it can also raise concerns about traffic congestion and infrastructure load.
The latest move reflects the authority’s broader efforts to align city planning with long-term development goals under the Master Plan 2050 framework.
